Sinners

Sinners is an editorial exploration of brotherhood, duality, and identity, inspired by the emotional depth of the film Sinners. Two brothers, bound by blood yet shaped by different wars, are brought to life through dramatic framing, vintage aesthetics, and atmospheric storytelling. This is a story designed not just to be seen, but felt.
Sinners is an editorial project inspired by the twins portrayed in the film Sinners. At its core, the project explores how two individuals can share the same bloodline yet carry entirely different internal battles.
Creative Direction was led by Folajimi Williams, who embodied Smoke — the older, more serious and pragmatic twin. Styling was curated by Olatunbosun Williams, portraying Stack — the younger, more cheerful and charismatic brother.
Photography and Cinematography were handled by Akinyoola Samuel (The Blackins).
To fully understand the emotional depth required for this project, I immersed myself in the source material. Studying the film allowed me to translate its emotional weight into visual language. Every frame was intentional, not just aesthetically composed, but psychologically driven.
The visual direction leaned into a dark, muted palette with vintage undertones. Dramatic lighting was used to sculpt tension through shadows and highlights. Symmetry and mirroring emphasized the bond between the brothers, while subtle variations in pose and composition revealed their differences in personality and internal struggles.
Close-ups captured intensity. Silhouettes heightened mystery. Creative angles deepened the storytelling.
The atmosphere played a critical role in shaping the mood. Timing became one of the challenges during production, as environmental conditions influence emotional tone. When certain elements didn’t align on set, post-production became essential. Through careful color grading, texture overlays, and subtle grain, the intended mood was preserved and intensified.
A cigar, used as a prop, symbolized maturity, reflection, and silent tension, reinforcing the emotional undercurrent of the narrative.
Sinners is ultimately a study of contrast within connection.
The same blood runs through them, but the world demanded different wars from each brother.
The story wasn’t just told.
It was felt.
